utterly helpless
When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. Romans 5:6 NLT
This is a very common scripture that I have heard over and over again but just have recently observed something new about it. In order for us (man) to realize that we were and are helpless outside of Christ; all of the history of the OT had to have taken place. If Christ had come any sooner than he did we may not have felt like he was necessary. If He had come later we may have been too far gone to be reached. It was as if God was building a case for just how bad sin really is. If God had sent Jesus just after Adam and Eve sinned we would never have known how bad it really was and perhaps not appreciated Him. History and sin had to take its course so that all of mankind ‘at just the right time’ would realize that we are utter helpless outside if a savior.
I need to never forget that everything that has happened in history was God showing me that outside of Him I can and will be utterly helpless. Just examining my life alone and seeing the history of God’s people in the Bible show me that I need to be grateful more today for Jesus.
God, thank you for always being right in time. You are simple amazing in your love and grace!
