how to pick your leaders ...
The apostles are faced with the real need of the widows, so they direct the people to pick from among themselves people who could help meet the need. The apostles did not pick themselves but gave a picture of the type of leaders they should be ...
1. They should be of a good reputation -
- These men's lives told the story of their faith in Christ. Their actions
matched their beliefs. A person's reputation and character is not
measured in what they have or accomplish ... It is measured in who they
are. The reputation of these men was, "what you see is what you get."
2. They should be full of the Spirit -
FULL ... a surface that is covered in every part, to completely permeated
with a substance.
SPIRIT ... The person of the Holy Spirit
- These men held nothing back from God. They were covered up and
covered over with the Holy Spirit in their lives. They had died to
themselves and were alive in Christ.
3. They should be full of wisdom -
- These men understood the world around them and they understood how
to allow God to work through them in the world. Wisdom allowed them to
see new ways to meet the needs of the people in the community. These
men were IN the world but not OF the world.
These men stood out as Godly men before they we ever given a position of leadership.
