God is a Deliverer
If I am drowning, I don't want a lecture on proper swimming technique. I don't want a speech on the importance of floating. I don't want to hear ten reasons why people drown. I want to be rescued. That is my primary concern. Get me out of the dangerous, breath taking, frightening experience I am currently facing.
In Exodus 3:8, God makes it clear, "I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians". God comes to deliver. He comes to set free. He comes to rescue them from that which has them in bondage. He comes to remove them from slavery. It is good to be reminded that God is a deliverer. God, through Jesus Christ, delivered us from the penalty of sin, which is eternal separation. God, through Jesus Christ, delivered us from life apart from Him and has given us new life. God, through Jesus Christ, has delivered us from being dominated by a system that is not consistent with His character and nature. God, through Jesus Christ, continues to deliver us from ourselves. God is a deliverer. It is however interesting that after God delivered the Israelites from bondage, many times they wanted to return to the bondage because living life in dependence upon God was unfamiliar and required faith.
Choose today to celebrate God as deliverer by not returning to bondage.
