You Men who Fear God
As I read Paul's speech (Acts 13:16), I am floored again by how worthy God is of our entire adoration, respect, submission and obedience. There is no one like Him in all the earth or in all of heaven! He stands alone in his greatness and in his love for mankind. He is HOLY. Set apart. Unlike anything we have beheld before. Oh that he would receive the regard he is due.
Conversely, it is saddening to me how little "fear of the Lord" is present among believers today. How few and far between are the times when my fathers have obeyed quickly, cheerfully, and completely! How few the times when I obey when I lack understanding of "why." Oh God, forgive me and forgive us for our lack of holiness...our shallow responses to your awesome depth.
Oh that we would adore you rightly! Oh that we would obey you fully! The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.(Prov 1) The fear of the Lord is to hate evil and perverse speech. (Prov 8:13) The fear of the Lord is the prerequisite to the deeper levels of friendship with the Father (Ps 25:14).
Father, return the fear of the Lord to your church, to my life, my thought-life, my speech, and my actions. Have mercy and fill my soul with hope again!
