We can't eat the cake!
The permissiveness of society has crept into the very practice of our doctrine. Repentance is simply a change of mind and direction TO God FROM our sin. In this case, as the people rightly identified the cause of their sin and desired to return to their God, they knew that the change needed was not inconsequential. It would hurt and cost them dearly! Somehow, our repentance today "allows" for nothing more than confession without radical change. So often we allow the "everything goes" mentality of this world to soften the resolve and force of true repentance!
Lord, give me the strength to remove from my life everything that pulls me from a life that pleases You!
