Insecurity Blurs
In this passage (Matthew 16:5-7), the disciples 'forgot' to fulfill one of their responsibilities: bring bread for the road trip. Like most leaders, because they realized they dropped the ball, they felt insecure.
When Jesus approaches them to speak of another matter, the 'leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees,' they heard 'leaven' and thought, 'oh no, Jesus is hinting at our failure to perform our duties...' When in fact, Jesus meant nothing of the bread they forgot. Their insecurity caused them to hear a message Jesus never said or intended to bring up.
Insecurity is like that. When your heart is torn by fear, you hear what you want to hear, not what is said.
Oh, that our insecurity would be made whole in the presence of God. May his word be found in our deepest , most innermost parts. May the truth be a salve that heals the cracks of insecurity.
May our relationships not be blurred by insecurity and its ruining affects.
