Col 4:3-4 Open Doors and Proper Proclamation

I have been on a journey to learn more about the nature of prayer. I have always known prayer is important, but why? What does it accomplish? How does it work? These couple verses give at least a couple insights into two things prayer helps accomplish. First, it actually helps create opportunities for evangelism. Paul asks for the Colossians to pray for open doors for the mystery of Christ. This means prayer must be able to help soften people's hearts, alert people's minds, humble people's wills, etc. Second, prayer helps those evangelizing to do a good job of it. Paul asks the Colossians to pray for him to be able to give people everything he ought to in order for them to understand the Gospel. So while prayer is something that gives a personal connection with God, it is a powerful tool for evangelism, preparing both the listener and the speaker to experience the full expression of the good news of Jesus Christ.
