someone God uses
After the followers of Christ were scattered to Judea and Samaria, Phillip one of the elected leaders of the people began preaching the Good News of Jesus to the people of Samaria.
takeaway... God used an ordinary guy (Phillip was not one of the apostles) to do an incredible work.
application... I need to make myself available to God and stop expecting someone else to do it.
takeaway... God used Phillip where he was. He was in Samaria, a place where no Jew wanted to be. But Phillip did not pray, "get me out of here." He spoke about Jesus and showed Jesus' love where He was. His location did not determine his obedience.
application... God has me where I am for a reason. I need to allow Him to work through me where I am today. I need to stop praying for "easy" and start being obedient.
interesting words...
preach- (vs.4) to tell the Good News, the picture here is of someone who know the answer to the question that people are asking and cannot contain it because of what the "answer" (Jesus) has done in their life.
proclaim- (vs. 5) to publicly tell what you have experienced, like a witness on the stand, as followers of Christ we cannot plead the 5th.
accord- (vs. 6) to be one in mind and purpose, to run along in unison, the picture is of a group of people acting and responding as one unit.
attention -(vs. 6) to bring near, to attend to one's self, the word picture here is one of a ship pulling in to dock.
Here is my prayer Lord ...
Help me to preach and proclaim Jesus to people where I am today.
Draw people to your Word and to yourself. Rally the people together and turn their hearts and minds toward you.
Do great signs and wonders through me in order to draw people to yourself. I want to be your "billboard" directing people to you.
Don't let my pre-conceived ideas get in the way of how you want to "sign" through me to tell your story.
Lord I want to be "Phillip" in my "Samaria."
