Holy Spirit baptism vs receiving
Jesus had arisen and gave His followers Holy Spirit to dwell in them. After Jesus appeared to them and many others, in Acts 1:4-5 Jesus said to wait for they would be baptized in Holy Spirit soon. This was fulfilled in the upper room in Acts 2 when they were baptized and empowered by Holy Spirit and began to speak in new tongues.
There is a baptism of water and a baptism of Holy Spirit. Throughout Acts, most of the believers were baptized in Holy Spirit when they received Jesus. The exceptions were the believers in Samaria and Macedonia. They had to have hands laid on them before receiving baptism of Holy Spirit.
Although it is plainly stated in John and Acts that there is a baptism of Holy Spirit, many deny it. They and their church have not experienced it, therefore they conclude that it does not exist. We should want every empowerment that God has for us. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. It's us who have changed.
