One Simple Misunderstanding
This idea has tripped me up most of my life.
It is the concept of "Radical unconditionality. " He loves me no matter what I do.
This is unique to Christianity and sharply different from other world views on our relationship to God.
It's not what I do that makes him love me, it's what he (Christ) did. His love is not earned by engaging in feelgood religious duties or other senseless rituals. What allows him to even look my way is what happened on the cross.
I am not a good person inherently, Nor do I play the fool by trying to be good. I can't.
Our relationship with Jesus doesn't depend on us getting "better." He alone pours out his goodness in our lives when we filter out our own selfish motives.
How can I wrap my head around this simple truth? It goes against all we think and know.
