I see this as how we go about Christ's mission. We are the current followers of Christ, and all of the followers of the past are looking to us to carry on the message... even Jesus Christ Himself. There's no need for useless spirituality and stupid sin. With our eyes "fixed" on Jesus, we are encouraged to finish our segment of the race in excellence, enduring to the end. And even when we begin to doubt, waver, or grow weary, we can always look back to Jesus who literally "plowed through" and ran the race like an Olympic Runner. This is our fuel to victory. Seeing Jesus start us off at such an advantage gives us strength and adrenaline to run victoriously.
So, what is this race? The race is to see those who have no clue of the Father, come into the knowledge of who He is through Jesus Christ. Our race is that of the Great Commission... the call to spread the message and fame of Jesus Christ everywhere, like a "love disease" that infects the most darkest places of the world. And the only way we can run this race is if we fix our eyes on Jesus and free ourselves from parasitic sins and meaningless religion and spirituality.
What an honor to be apart of such a race, and to have such an awesome track runner leading the way.
