The Two Waters / Three Heavens
God separated the water into two different waters, the waters we know as our oceans and then another body that most are unfamiliar about. Scholors believe that this other body of water was a layer of water that surrounded the earth. They also believed this is what collapsed when The LORD flooded the earth. It also helps to explain why pre-deluge population lived much longer, the layer of water surrounding the earth helped to keep out harmful UV rays and things such as that.
Also someone else said on here that Heaven is between the two separated bodies of water and I believe this to be only partly true. The way I've been taught there are Three Heavens.
1. the sky on the earth, the first heaven was between the oceans and that second body of water.
2. Space is the second heaven.
3. and the third heaven is Heaven itself, where God lives and where Jesus sits at the Right Hand of The LORD with all of the angels.
