An Eternal Perspective
The book of Proverbs is a practical, concise, substantive direction on how to live. It tells us we should be focusing on heaven instead of being preoccupied with envying "sinners" (which is a description of those who live exclusively for this world and its pleasure).
Focus on heaven, keeping this and you is an absolute "must"!
If we lose our an eternal perspective, it spells trouble. Our priorities will be off, our ability to stand out as salt and light will diminish, and our hope will wane. We lose our edge.
Eternity keeps us on the cutting edge of our faith. Our decisions and actions are redefined and purified when we remember there is a hereafter. Those things that are "iffy" for us to engage in lose their persuasive pull on us.
So if you find yourself wavering in these things, if you catch yourself in envying sinners, mismanaging your priorities, losing your effectiveness as a witness in this world, or feeling hopeless . . . here's how you corrected it: Set your eyes on things above, remember that your life on earth is but a vapor, you see yourself as a sojourner and not a settlers. You remind yourself every moment of every day that there is a hereafter.
And as you do, it's going to restore your edge and practically impact how do you live out your life.
1 Timothy 6:12 NIV) - "Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses."
