in too much pain
God shows up and promises the world to the Israelites - freedom, their own land, a God of their own and they say NO!! Why? Because they are in too much pain, in too much anguish. All hope is gone. They can't believe in the 'Good News' that God had come to save them because they were in such bondage (physically).
Who are the people in our world, who can't hear the Good News cos they are in too much pain? People for whom an eternity makes no sense cos their present itself is hellish. We are called to rescue people from hell both in this world and the next. that's the call on our lives!!!
