Spurned
in my Student Bible there is a side note. I want to put it here and then relate to it.
"Lovers remember when they first fell for someone. They also remember how that person responded, especially if their love met rejection.
"In Malachi, God starts the conversation with 'I have loved you.' Then he traces all of Israel's sins back to their underlying contempt for that love. They have not honored him as a father (verse 6) or worshiped him as the great King he is (verse 11). Instead, they have shown contempt, bringing second-rate offerings (verse 8), saying, 'What a burden!' and sniffing contemptuously at his table (verse 13)."
This isn't just in reference to Israel of old. This is the living Word of God. I have been having a time with God. Feeling as if He is extremely far away, out of reach. But when I was lead to this chapter, and this side note in particular, I had to step back and ask myself... have I spurned His great love with second-rate offerings? What in my life needs to be confessed to Him for forgiveness? What have I done lately to hurt God and make Him feel less honored or respected? How has He shown His love for me? How have I shown my love for Him?
And the greatest question of all... What can I do to give Him my best, as He deserves?
