the End...what happens next? Hell

My notes from Robert Morris's message from Gateway Church Southlake TX.

Those who do not believe.

Agnostic-atheists

Is there a chance that in the 98% of knowledge you do not attain that there is a God.

Annihilationists believe non believers will be annihilated.

Ultimate reconcilationist believe hell is a smelting pot purifying sinners.

Universalists- all people will go before God and be forgiven because what they beileved

"There was a rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. And at his gate was laid a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man's table. Moreover, even the dogs came and licked his sores. The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried, and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. And he called out, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.' But Abraham said, 'Child, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner bad things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.' And he said, 'Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father's house— for I have five brotherst—so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment.' But Abraham said, 'They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.' And he said, 'No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent.' He said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.'" (Luke 16:19-31 ESV)

Hell is a place of fire.

Torment An acute pain from debilitating disease. Rack of torture that stretched the body outward until it was pierced. A burning fire hot enough to melt metal.

Someone who goes to Hell will:
Seek comfort from the pain and lonesomeness.
Expressed concern that they don't want their family there.
Seeks consolation that it will end.

There is more historical fact that Jesus rose from the grave than there is proof of Julius Caesar.

Two physical properties that keep us stable: light and solid.

Light keeps us oriented. in heaven there is light because the lamb is the light. There is no light in hell because God removes his existence from that place.

Solid in hell you will never touch anything.

Two emotional properties keep us stable not found in Hell.

Rest and hope.

Rev 14:11 And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever, and they have no rest, day or night, these worshipers of the beast and its image, and whoever receives the mark of its name." (Revelation 14:11 ESV)

Gahenna- valley of Henna where the refuse was burnt. When the pout people could not afford a burial they were burned in that valley. Some kings ex:Manassa, sacrificed there children in these fires, driving them into the flames. This is why Christ told the story.

Jesus said, "It is like gahenna where there is weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth. "

He was trying to keep them from going there.
