This is an old scripture song I learned in the mid 70's. ( Micah 6:6-8 " what does the Lord require...") It has a really catchy tune and a very important message. God has shown us in His word what he expects from us as His children. (Deut. 10:12-13 ) He then narrows it down to three specific attitudes.
1. to do justily; Simply put; do what is right in God's eyes. I Peter 3:9, Rom. 12:21; Prov. 15:1 Matthew 5:44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.
2. to love mercy: We can't be holy people, good religious people, unless we act with compassion. Our laws, social order and justice will be flawed if they are not grounded in compassion. ( essay by Dr. Linda Gaither )
3. walk humbly with your God. Job: Learned; that walking humbly with God meant that he would not understand all the ways and thoughts of God. King David: learned that walking humbly with God meant confessing one's sin before God. Moses: learned that walking humbly with God meant trusting that God can equip you to do things you could not do on your own.
In the Hebrew; to walk humbly simply means; " allow yourself to be advised by God." "Pay attention to what God is saying or doing." " Keep your eyes on God while you live." ( The Minor Prophets by Jack Lewis )
