As I read this story about Jacob and Rachel, something grips my heart and seems to pushing me to explore deeper a potential story behind the story.
Jacob was the younger brother - smarter, more sensitive, less loved by his father, but destined for greatness and leadership that would lead his older brother and family.
Rachel was the younger sister - more beautiful in form and appearance -
Jacob wrestled with envy-inspired competition and when Leah bore sons faster than Rachel, Rachel too become envious and competitive.
A common bondage - a common mindset that would have to be overcome individually and then overcome maritally in order to be prepared for the world-changing, epic-in-nature kingdom fruit.
It makes me wonder if God sovereignly places two people together whom he knows shall turn the tide in history through their fruitfulness - and he leads them in such a way that through long, slow, frustrating, processes they must become pure in heart, child-like, meek, in order to receive the promise.
Joseph was the son of God's promise...not just to Jacob but to Abraham - He would save the nations. Could it be that Amy and I are on the cusp of winning a battle together that is the first round of tide-changing fruitfulness that we have been patiently learning to be prepared for????
