Observations of the Church

Why is it that people expect so much from their Pastor? I have heard people say for years "we are leaving because the pastor is boring, or not preaching Ver good". They say things like, "I just don't get anything out of his sermons". I am starting to come to the belief that maybe the reason they aren't getting anything out of the message is because he is preaching about some one they don't know, or don't know very well. If the only time you spend with God is for an hour on Sunday morning, how well do you expect to know him? I mean really, how close would you be with your wife or husband if you only spoke with them once a week? God wants a loving relationship with us so bad, that He was willing to give up His only Son for us. And we can't give Him more than an hour a week! I know that I don't spend enough time with Him. I don't give Him the focus I should. I know I have sins that I put between myself and God. I need to give those things up and depend on Jesus for my needs. I need to focus on my relationship with Christ and not be judgemental about others. I need to pray that they would grow closer to God and improve their relationship with Him.
Lord, help me to give up this sins that bind me and keep me from being close to You. Help me to have greater understanding and compassion for my brother's and sisters. Lord help me to focus on my relationship with You and not worry about things I have no control over. Be my guiding light and mold me into the man you want me to be.
