Do Not Let One Word Evade You
As I read Job's story and the complaints of his friend, I begin to think how far off their theology and personal experience with God had become. In the book of Deuteronomy, which probably was written after this book, Moses commands the people to be diligent in obeying God's word. He goes on to say "Don't let one word be forgotten or omitted and don't add a single word to what he has said."
When we forget what God's word says, we become feeble in our attempts to reach the hearts of men in an everlasting manner.
Job 4:7 basically says "Job, tell me one time when the innocent perished. See, you can't. Innocent people don't perish through being cut off."
Its as if Eliphaz has forgotten the story of Cain and Abel. Cain killed Abel in cold blood and God called him on it. He said, "The innocent blood calls out to me from the ground."
Point being - Innocent people perish all the time. It is inappropriate to say "If bad things happen to you, its because you have blown it or sinned."
Oh, that we would know God's heart and his word so that we might become influential advisors like Daniel in our day.
