After being told, “Your son was miraculously saved from certain death,” the official asks, “What time was that exactly?” I can’t imagine a more ridiculous or inappropriate response unless there was something even greater at stake—Jesus’ true identity. The official began not believing in Jesus, but desperate enough to go to Him—not trusting Him, but willing to take Him at His word and obey Him. Here he sees God’s power at work and His promises fulfilled.
