Joel 1-2: Crappy to Happy

Joel 1 starts out with some crazy-depressing words. The town is in ruins. The animals need food, but are getting malnourished because there isn't any green grass.

God tells the people to mourn. Then, he tells them that a massive army - His army - is coming to fight against them. He even describes how great His warriors are.

However, the world begins to look on and ask the Israelite people, "Where is your God." They become filled with shame.

In Chapter 2, God relents His anger. He turns His army away from the Israel.

It looks likeGod was angry with the Israelite people because they no longer presented grain offerings and drink offerings.

They had neglected serving God.

Have you? Maybe you've been experiencing the discipline of God as a result. If so, I encourage you to do what God told the Israeli people to do.

'Even now', declares the LORD, 'return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.'

Joel then speaks to the people:

Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the LORD your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity.

Turn back to God. Seek Him anew, like for the first time. Act like you should - like you've just seen a glimpse of something amazing and are willing to do whatever it takes to chase it!

God will meet you where you are. :)
