Used by the one you love!

Have you ever felt used? Like your relationship meant nothing unless you were giving up something or using you resources to better someone else. Has that person ever been a loved one. Someone very close? What would you say if I said being used by the one closest to you should actually be your life's goal? I guess that is dependant on who you love right?

In Richard Ross's, Supremacy of Christ, he speaks to the difference between the centrality of Christ in our lives and the Supremacy of Christ in our lives. For the last ten years of being a Disciple of Christ I have been taught by teachers to focus on Christ and to set Him at the center of my life, grounding myself in Him who is my Creator, my Salvation and my Counselor. That is what Ross refers to as the centrality of Christ. Once I have done that, I have been told, that is where God wants me to be. But I felt there was more. I felt I was doing stuff for Christ and I was making a difference in other's lives, but I knew God was so much bigger.

When I read the second part to Ross's statement it makes sense how I could feel so delegate for more of God. In Matthew 10:37-39, Jesus says, "Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it." If our love is to be that intense for Him then shouldn't our attitude about being used by Him? The supremacy of Christ refers to taking the thought of having Jesus be the center of our world and tweak it so that we are in the center if Jesus's world.

What does that look like? It looks like we are being used. All of our resources are used to better others, we go where He tells us, we talk to people we do not want to talk to, we love on those who we think have wronged us. Some would say that is puppetry, let me say I believe that is not puppetry rather partnering with our Lord. He is our God who has graced us with creation, salvation, and a relationship with Him. He is the God head, let Him take his place in your life as I am working on in mine. Let his sword pierce through the selfish flesh to reveal His son or daughter below it and get used.
