Separation
I had never noticed the separation going on in this text before. However, in vs. 4 God separates light from darkness. In vss. 6-7 He separates water from water. In vss. 9-10 He separates land from water. In vs. 14 He separates day from night. Finally in vs. 18 He separates light from darkness again, closing the words of separation. Because of the bracketing of the passage with the separation of light from darkness, this would seem to be the predominant theme. If light and darkness were intended as metaphors for righteous and evil respectively, then that separation lies in the very nature of the created order itself. What God has declared to be good is the separation of righteousness from darkness. It may be stretching it, but the other separations mentioned may be an indication that this separation will be an ongoing concern within the created order. Just some rambling thoughts about something I had never noticed before.
