Being Cool vs Being Real

John's ministry was exploding! Hundreds of people were being baptized into new life as he prepared people for the Kingdom Message Jesus was about to bring. When the religious people (Pharisees and Sadducees) saw what was going on, they wanted to participate, solely because it was the cool thing to do. John sees that they aren't coming for the right reasons and erupts. He says that it is our life that must change. Baptism was a symbolic expression of the real life change people were experiencing. It was the cool thing to do! It looked good! When you're worshiping, do you lift hands because it looks good or as a real response to what God has done in your life? When you pray, do you pray because it sounds good, or because you desire for God to communicate with you in a real way? Our lives should be "green and blossoming" John says. Don't be fake, just because everybody else is doing it. Be real! If you haven't had a real experience with Jesus Christ, don't settle for a fake one! We are a church that strives for authenticity. We've all been fake in some way before. Jesus wants to give us life, not a bunch of cool stuff that looks good. Lets pursue a more authentic real, loving relationship with Jesus Christ and each other everyday.
