Leaving
It's interesting the emphasis on "leaving" in verse 1. Abram has to leave his country, his relatives, and his father's house in order to go to the land God will show him. This sounds like how a man/woman must leave his father's house before he can cleave to his/her spouse. Since marriage is often used as a metaphor for our relationship with God, it may be that we're seeing here how that relationship is initially formed -- we must leave the things of this world to which we are attached in order to attach (cleave) ourselves to God.
