This is what religion tries to do.
Peter wanted to take a polaroid of this moment in time. He was witnessing such an amazing move of God that He wanted to build a memorial to celebrate. So that from then on anytime he was struggling or doubting he could return to that spot and remember that God showed up.
But Jesus doesn't let him. Jesus does not want us to build monuments to him, he wants us to become a movement that cannot be stopped.
He doesn't want us to live our spiritual lives like yesterday or last years move of God was the best ever. He wants us to be a movement of people that continually follow Him and point others to do the same.
Religion builds monuments. Christ followers are a part of a movement.
