And so the Lord makes His covenant with Abram (now called Abraham) but not just to Abraham. Also to his children. What an awesome promise and how much greater it is for including Abraham’s family. On the 14th (two Sundays ago) my daughter Marci was baptized. Now as a good presbyterian I believe that baptism is a sign of the covenant between God and people.
A lot of people differ on the whose and hows of baptism and thats okay. But to be honest with you I don’t understand how any Christian parent could not want their child to become part of the covenant people of God. And I guess thats why they have “dedications”, the idea and desire of having children become part of the covenant community is so strong that they had to do something. They just know that it’s wrong to do nothing. So they make up a unbiblical ritual.
But enough about that, if you want to see some of the promises that baptism (and circumcision back in the BC days) stands for you can read my letter to Marci here.
