Matthew 27:46

I've been wrestling with this verse for a while now & would like to post some thoughts & would love to hear other scripture to back up your thoughts as well.

Some pastors teach that this verse is taken to mean that God forsook Christ & that God 'turned His back' on Christ. I completely disagree based on this verse. I believe that Christ is referring to Psalm 22 when He speaks this. As He did in almost all other teachings He was speaking in a parable type format - deeper meaning that what was said.

Second, I don't believe God could turn His back on Christ - God is Christ so how can He turn His back on Himself? Christ promised us "I will never leave you; nor forsake you" Matt 28. I think it goes against God's Character to forsake those who love Him & obey His commandments. Take Job, he might have felt forsaken, but in actuality God was there He was just silent - not to be mistaken with forsaken.

I'm in no way a pastor or teacher, but I am pretty handy at finding amazing ones. So here is a link that best describes this & scripture that goes with it:

pg. 3 specifically

I've looked in the 3 other gospels as well & find no scripture to substantiate the "forsaken" theory. Any scripturally based thoughts would be most welcomed.
