"When Disaster Strikes"

Theme: Stability, Moment

Scripture: Luke 6:49 - But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.

Observation: Disaster always comes in a moment and we are always surprised by it. It gives us no warning, it just leaps upon us. Jesus doesn't say 'if' it comes he just tells us to prepare ourselves for 'when' it comes! Being prepared according to Jesus is having a deep foundation that everything else stands upon. A deep foundation can only be attained by hearing the words of Jesus and then putting them into practice. It's knowing and doing that that makes you secure!

Application: You can tell what kind of foundation you have by what kind of fruit your life displays. How do you treat people when frustrated? What comes out of  your mouth when under pressure? These are indicators of what is in your foundation, what is stored up in your heart! Knowing the words of Jesus is not enough to be able to stand when the moment of disaster comes. We need to also put them into practice so that they are part of the fibre of our being. They truly must be the foundation upon which the rest of my life stands. Only when my foundation is right will I live in security no matter when and where disaster strikes! It is foolishness to listen to Jesus' words and then choose to not action them!

Prayer: Father help me to not just know the Word of God but give me the strength and conviction to apply it to my life as well, for only then I will be able to stand when disaster strikes any place and at anytime!
