My Thoughts on John the Baptist

Its funny how we look at John the Baptist from today's perspective. He looks like a crazy man. I can just envision him out in the middle of the desert, scraps of clothing hanging off his body; his body is thin and almost frail looking from his diet of locusts and wild honey. I imagine unkempt hair blowing in the breeze off the Jordan River; yet, this is the man written about by the Prophets: "Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, Who will prepare Your way before You."

This man of little possessions is one of the great men spoke of in the Old Testament. One who will have the privilege to prepare the way of the Lord. Today, we seek material possessions on a daily basis, almost to the extent of this frail man seeking the Will of God. Looking at this man from today, we see a tired, poor, pitiful man, when in actualality, there is a wonderful man of God, seeking His divine Will. Even when John the Baptist had a huge multitude of followers, he still decreased, so God could increase.

Today's Christ follower would do very well learning from this man's example. Material possessions will do nothing for you in life or after life. We need to stop concentrating on ourselves and focus on the One that truly matters in this life: Our Lord Jesus Christ.
