dust it off
Luke 10:11 NLT
‘We wipe even the dust of your town from our feet to show that we have abandoned you to your fate. And know this—the Kingdom of God is near!’
Jesus always was warning His followers to not base their life, worth, or effectiveness, based on others reactions nor the surroundings they find themselves in. The disciples were receiving instructions for their upcoming journey, and Jesus knrw not everyone would welcome them and the message they were bringing. He helped them guard against offense and people's opinion.
What am I to do when people dont celebrate me like i think they should? What is my reaction to be when they dont receive the message we bring? What happens when people are unjustifiably disappointed with me?
First, I must realize its not about me. If i am walking in obedience it isnt my deal. My charge is to obey. Second, its not my offense to take. Jesus is Lord. People wont always like me and thats ok. I do want to walk humbly in all situations. Third, i just need to brush if off. The dust and stuffy residue of people's opinion can suficate me...like too much dust. If i can daily wipe the dust off, it helps me not walk in offense. Daily reminding myself thay I am not God, keeps me from having a savior comlex.
If i can be obedient to the Lord, keep myself from living smugly, and keep a proper mindset regarding my role in this life - i know i wont have a problem with dust.
Father, I want to honor you in all things. I pray your spirit would fill me woth love and compassion. Help me to discern between people's opinion and truth. Keep me centered on your love. I trust you and want to live without offense in my life.
