I really appreciate Bruner's comments on the 3 groupings of 14 names in Matthew's genealogy. The upward swing of the first grouping showing God's grace and mercy, the downward spiral of the second grouping showing the consequences of rebellion, and the third grouping showing that God steps in when things are dark and restores us - this is how Bruner identifies the groupings.
His comments on the passage remind me that in the long run, God's grace overcomes our rebellion. Sometimes it's hard to endure for the "long run" though. Holding out for hope is always worth it. Always.
