Song of Solomon is not a book for the immature. Song of Solomon is a book written to God's people to instruct them about the ways of love in male/female dating, courtship, marriage, and love. In this book we see the relationship between the man and woman spark, and grow. We see the ups and downs. We see sexual intimacy as God intended between a husband and wife. We see restraint before marriage. We see the man as the spiritual leader and know that he cannot dishonor God with improper sexual relations prior to marriage. And we see the beauty of what God intended from marriage.
Song of Solomon, while painting a picture of Christ and his relationship to his bride and showing that symbolism at times, DOES NOT merely symbolize the relationship Christ to His bride, but rather giving man instructions about one of the most important aspects of human relationships, the gift of marriage.
In the words of Dr. Richard Pratt, if you only look at this book to search for Christ's imagery in the Old Testament, you are majoring on minors. While that is there and is important, this book means much more than that.
Why would God place so much importance on marriage yet give us no instructions about the subject? The answer is He did. Song of Solomon is our instruction manual for dating criteria, courtship, marriage, sex, fighting, and love.
