Importance of a name
The verse begins by talking about her attraction to Solomon because he smells good, he is clean. And then she says his name is like purified oil(NASB).
There is an importance to this passage. Solomon is discribed as having a name like purified oil, meaning that his name give good fragrance, he is a man with a good name. to a man a good name is important. It symbolizes who he is. You often find in scripture when God changes someones name after some change has occurred; Abram to Abraham after the covenant was established, Sarai to Sarah, Jacob to Israel, Simon to Peter after a statement of faith, Saul to Paul after his conversion. Many times you see God change someone's name after something important happens, why? Because your name symbolizes who you are, it shows your character and integrity. Solomon was more attractive because he had a good name, a good reputation, he was a man of integrity.
