The Impact of the Generations
Look at the consistency...every 14 generations, God does something BIG...Abraham became the father of a nation in the late years of his life, even after his wife had been barren for some many years. And now that they have that beautiful boy, what does Abraham do? He offers the child to God as a sacrifice. Fortunately for Isaac, all God wanted was to see Abraham's trust and obedience instead of Isaac's blood. The end of the 14 generations was with King David, a man after God's own heart. The next 14 years ended with the Israelites in captivity in Babylon...Did it all start with David's sin? If we, as a nation, do not hold our leaders accountable for their actions, how can we expect our people to hold to higher standard? But, God did not forget His people, they did come out of bondage, but they were never the same again. They had experienced the "freedoms" and pleasures of Babylon. How could they ever go back to living out their lives according to God's law? They couldn't; that's why God had to send a Savior to perform an act that would bear the weight of all the sins for all time: past, present, and future. God had given the law in the Old Testament, but He knew the people would never be able to obey every word. That's why they had to bring blood sacrifices...the people had to see that their sin had consequences paramount to death, even if it wasn't their own. Even the blood sacrifices came to be a ritual without meaning for many.
