A Leader Who Isn't Giving Is Not A Leader

A leader is one who leads. And one area a church leader has to lead in is in tithing. The leader who leads other leaders is the pastor and staff. A pastor, church staff member, or leader who isn't tithing is a hypocrite - not a leader.

How can a church leader challenge the people to tithe if he/she isn't tithing? This would be like having an overweight trainer telling you to watch what you eat and exercise! Talk about a joke!

And yes, pastors should be tithing - they are not exempt. (Num. 18:26) I have known some pastors who use the lame excuse of giving and sacrificing so much of their time and lives already that they are exempt from tithing. Nothing could be further from the truth.

In fact, if we follow the example given us in Numbers 7 - a leaders tithing should be public record. The people he/she is leading need to see the proof that the leader is tithing.

At Meadow, church staff are required to tithe and you cannot be on the Leadership Team if you are not tithing. You cannot be a Growth Group leader or a ministry team leader if you are not sacrificially giving. Not only because you must be leading in giving, but also because giving and tithing are evidence of the priority of God in your life.

Pastors & church leaders who do not tithe are disqualified from church leadership.
