What's your rep?

I love all those free pens and random items that you get from pharmaceutical reps. My brother-in-law is one, so I occasionally get cool Viagra pens and the like.... my favorite one ever, was this pen that had a red light on the inside of it. You could turn off the light so it wasn't always on, 'cause that would be annoying. It rocked. The sad thing is that I have absolutely no idea what drug that super-cool, yellow, illuminating writing utensil was marketing. It's funny how that happens... So, with this in mind, these verses take on a new meaning to me. What good is the flash & the "cool" if people can't even recall what it is about me that they liked/disliked so much? How is my reputation holding up? Does God, and do people, view me with favor? Or did I leave a bad taste in their mouth? I think the answer lies in how well I hold up to my end of the deal - by living in the balance of kindness and truth. If something is true, did I communicate that truth in kindness, or was I just voicing an uncaring, selfish conviction? If someone is kind, am I the one to point out that truth to others, so offering encouragement to said kind person? If something is false, can I communicate truth kindly? If someone is being unkind, can I lovingly point them to the truth? Hmm... good questions, I think. (Prayer:) God, help me to wear kindness and truth well, 'cause they match, but sometimes I'm colorblind.
