From that day forward!
This sounds almost like the salvation that the church experiences today! The only difference is the Spirit came upon David, not in David. But clearly God is at work in David's life.
The Spirit in or on our lives is not a guarantee of blessings, success, or prosperity. If you study David's life from this day forward that fact is pretty obvious. He suffered tremendously, either through the actions of others, or because of his own sin.
But the real comfort and blessing of the words "from that day forward" is not the content of those days but the promise of His presence - His hand, His guidance, His encouragement, His resources, His forgiveness, His love through whatever the enemy, the world, and our broken selves may bring.
Before the cross the Spirit promised to be with David. Now He promises to live in us. There is a world of difference between the two. Let's take full advantage!
