The original sin offering
What jumps out to me here is how incredibly complex and difficult each one of these offerings are. The message seems to be that our actions alone are never sufficient to meet God's standards. When I think about the number of bulls that I would have to sacrifice for my sins I would kill an entire herd in the matter of a month.
What also jumps out to me is the use and significance of blood in the Old Testament. There is always a price to be paid for our sins, which is the price of blood. Blood signifies life. Sin requires blood to be paid. Loss of blood equals loss of life. Therefore sin equals loss of life or death. There is no way around this requirement, not even for God.
This is where the power of Christ's blood is so amazing. Jesus willing offered himself as the eternal sacrifice for all of our sin. His willingness to step down as God the Son to become man and then die on the cross fulfilled the obligatory payment for all of us for all eternity. What a powerful sacrifice! It's a sacrifice that I cam barely wrap my head around because there are levels of this sacrifice that I will never understand. Nevertheless I am so immeasurably thankful for the sacrifice of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
