Throughout SOS we see a conversation happening between Solomon and his Shulamite bride. Here we see how she perceives herself before she is impacted by the love of Solomon. She talks about how she has now taken care of her skin, which was extremely important to middle Eastern women. in verse 6 ASV says " Look not upon me, because I am swarthy" She has worked in the vineyard of her brothers but has not taken care of her own vineyard. This shows the character of the woman. Just as Solomon's name is like purified oil, great character, she puts other before herself, a servant heart. Her character is good.
