In chapter 1 we see Solomon and the Shulamite begin to speak kindly of each other, to add value and build up each other in the terms of their love for one another. As a result, we see the Shulamite no longer think of herself as swarthy, but lovely. A man should make his wife feel like a million bucks. Always speaking kindly and building up. The result of Solomon doing this is a change in her perception of herself, and an increase in her respect for him.
