A good leader must win the hearts of his people. God is definitely with David. First he won the heart of the King, temporarily anyway, by playing a harp and relieving his troubled spirit. Then he won the heart and respect of the soldiers by defeating Goliath, including Jonathan. But it wasn't until he won the hearts of the people in these verses because of his victory in battle that Saul becomes suspicious.

This is the beginning of a long and perilous journey for David. Even when God is with us, we shouldn't expect that Satan is just going to hand over his territory.
