The OT Great Commission
Called by Walter Kaiser and others the "Great Commission" of the OT. Nations=ethne--peoples, not countries. Note the three aspects: "I will make you into a great nation" - so Abraham would become the father of a people group that would be "great"; "I will bless you"; "I will make your name great"--good reputation, power, influence; "You will be a blessing"--now Abraham must have an active part, obedience; "I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse" (protection, applies to Christians today, since we are the children of Abraham); "all peoples on earth will be blessed through you"--nations, ethne, this extends through Abraham (who would become a great nation) to us (who are part of that nation)
