SCRIPTURE:

"3 Having carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I also have decided to write a careful account for you, most honorable Theophilus, 4 so you can be certain of the truth of everything you were taught." -Luke 1:3-4 (NLT)

OBSERVATION:

Even in the first century, AD, mere decades removed from the physical life of Jesus on earth, there was doubt that was spread and planted about who Jesus was, what He did, and what He said. This confusion of the time was such that the physician Luke felt the need to take his professional and intellectual mind and apply it to these questions. Thank goodness that his record stands for us to learn from! As he expresses, his investigation was careful and thorough and his writing was equally careful. And his intent was that those lovers of God who would read his account could be confident of the accuracy of what they read and, thereby, confident of the Truth.

APPLICATION:

Trite as the application may sound, in following after the observations above, our own day is one filled with doubts about who Jesus was, what He did, and what He said. Inexplicably, some of these doubts are engendered and fostered by those who would claim to be Christians. But I thank God that He has preserved for us a careful and thorough record of His interaction with His people, as exemplified in the Gospel of Luke. I will choose again, this year, to accept the Truth of God's Word over that of the intellectuals of this world. And, as the Word promises, by knowing the Truth, I will find freedom.

PRAYER:

LORD God, thank You for letting me enjoy a ride on this beautiful planet that you created through its whole orbit this past year! :) Thank You for the renewed hope that on this next trip around, I may yet come to know You better and enjoy the relationship with You that. I was created for and serve You better as You build Your Kingdom in this place. Help me to know Your Truth, be confident in it, and be changed by it this year.
