Right perspectives

You asked, ‘Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorance?’

It is I—and I was talking about things I knew nothing about,

things far too wonderful for me. Job 42:3

Life is frequently unpredictable and the cards we are dealt may not be what we expect. The normal reaction of humans seem to be to seek a cause or blame for what is happening to us. More often than not, the blame lands on the doorstep of God. "You say you are all-powerful and all-loving... how could you let such a thing happen to me? You could have stopped these hurts of mine? Why allow me to be burnt?"... and so on...

You may be already familiar with the story of Job where God did allow heart-breaking calamities to enter Job's life. And whilst Job did not sin by condemning God, he did have questions for God. The way God answers is not what I would originally expect (see Job 39ff). In a nutshell, he reminded Job of who He is - the Great I AM. He sets the perspective right. Remember that He is God and we are His creation. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts (Isa. 55:9). I must admit that I do not have all the answers when people ask me why did God do this or that. He is often unfathomable and that's why He is God. We who have finite and limited minds pretend to understand the workings of a infinite and limitless God. How ignorant we are.

The greater wonder for me is that God would even choose to care for us at all. Who are we that He should even choose to love us by sending us His Son to die on the cross for us? This is the bigger question.
