What is a Fisher?
I started thinking about this in church this morning. We are all called to be fishers, but I don't know if many of us have really thought about the details of what it means to be fishers. Fishermen are foreign to the object that they are fishing. Fishermen leave the comfort of land for the uncertainty of the sea. Fishermen cast their nets deep and wide. Fishermen use different techniques to catch as many fish as they can.
It is interesting we are having the "culture" wars today over what church should look like. In the Greek it uses the accusative plural of you. I take this to mean that God wants to use the church collectively to be fishers of men and that as we follow Christ he will guide us on how to do that.
Just like fishermen have different approaches to the trade to which they have been trained, so to do Christians have different approaches to the mission to which they have been called. We'd all be good to remember that.
