the next generation
Our youth pastor spoke on this verse last Sunday... He was emphasizing the need for parents to pass on the legacy of our Christian faith to our kids so they in turn pass it on to their kids, and so forth. We must be diligent. If not careful, Christianity will be outnumered by other 'religions' in just a couple of generations.
Another thing he spoke about was the need for us to protect our kids from spiritual dangers. We are quick to say that we would not hesitate to put our own lives at risk in order to save our kids from any physical danger. But are we just as quick to get out of our 'comfort zones' to protect them in the spiritual realm, which is much more damaging? I mean, do we live a life that is transparent? Do our kids see our Christian walk in the decisions we make? In the words we speak? In the actions we take? How about praying WITH them, not just FOR them? This struck home big time for me. It's not enough to take them to church, to help them come to a saving knowledge of Jesus. We must EQUIP them so that they may be able to stand against the evil that is all around them. So that they, in turn, will do the same for their kids, who will do the same for their kids, and so forth...
