Beneficial?

I came across this verse in my PB&J devotions, and it didn't make sense at first last night, but I was thinking about it while I was brushing my teeth this morning, and I understood. I'm allowed to buy chocolate chip pop-tarts, but it's not beneficial for me because I'll eat the whole box in a day. I can watch PG-13 movies, but it may not always be beneficial for me because of the language and sexual content. I think that God is pointing this out is because if it's not beneficial, then it's bound to be destructive. Even if it never affects us, it may harm someone else. (Like I can my shorts as shorts as I like, and it may never bother ME, but most likely, it's tripping up all the guys around me). And the second part of the verse: even if we are allowed to do something, it will end up being destructive if we abuse it and let it take over our lives. I'm allowed to date. but if I like my boyfriend TOO much and forget about my family, friends, schoolwork, chores, etc. then I need a reality check.
