I was reading this recently and thought to myself, when was the last time a modern day church had to turn away offerings because there was more than enough?

The shear volume of gold, silver, and bronze they gathered is impressive. What's even more interesting to me is that it wasn't collected for humanitarian aid or redistribution. It was gathered to honor God. It was ornate and extreme and beautiful. No one complained that it was too extravagant - because they weren't doing it to impress their neighbours - they did it to impress God.
